Batzen Sudwerk: Duets

Wednesday 19 Feb

Bolzano City Centre (Bolzano)

from 20:30 on

Sudwerk Festival - DUETS concert #3

An evening dedicated entirely to duets, where the genres will be extremely varied: contemporary jazz, reinterpretations of Beatles songs, Brazilian music, and classical music.

The "Bom" project consists of singer Martina Effy Bergonzoni (Italian, living and musically active in the Netherlands) and guitarist Joy Goh, both with a jazz background. Martina's voice brings the stories and emotions of the songs to life, while Joy's skilful guitar supports the melodic and harmonic structure, and their combined talents enhance the overall sound and richness of the performances.

Next comes the performance of two artists considered favourites in South Tyrol: Helga Plankensteiner and Michael Loesch.
Helga and Micky are two artists loved and appreciated perhaps like no other in South Tyrol. They boast important collaborations and are the creators and promoters of many musical projects that have made regional jazz history. Michael is a pianist, composer, and arranger who has distinguished himself in his long career for his great technical skill, delivered with great fluency and nonchalance. Helga started as a jazz singer but then developed great technique in using the baritone saxophone and has earned a prominent place nationally and internationally, as it is very rare to find a female baritone saxophonist because, physically and technically, it is a challenging instrument.
At Sudwerk, they will improvise a performance spontaneously and, like true jazz musicians, will probably decide what to play just moments before taking the stage.

Then we come to the third duet which, for the first time in the festival, plays a repertoire of classical music.
The Nova Lux Duo was born from a collaboration between guitarist and poet Elena Nardo Careddu and cellist Omar Flavio Careddu. The duo has performed around 150 concerts with a transversal and Central European repertoire. They recorded the CD "Endless Journey" between Italy and Japan, which is distributed by Egea Music, Harmonia Mundi, Feltrinelli, Spotify, Amazon, etc. The duo is currently working on a charitable project for young people. Professor Nardo, in addition to several poetry awards at the regional and national level, has obtained postgraduate qualifications in the area of inclusion and music therapy and a master's degree in interreligious dialogue. Professor Careddu has three degrees, two courses and a Master's, and a teaching qualification from the Conservatories of Bolzano and Trento and the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara, Rome (Antonianum), and Venice (ISE). The duo is engaged in recordings and projects at the regional and national level.

The fourth duet: Mystery Tour is the new album and concert by the Italian-French singer Sara Longo and the Venetian double bassist and multi-instrumentalist Alvise Seggi, dedicated to the music of the Beatles. The project was born from the two artists' need to unite a shared passion for the music of the Fab Four, revisited with a personal and delicate stylistic signature. The essentiality that characterises the duo allows the two musicians to move with well-rehearsed interplay, between hypnotic cello drones and skilful use of effects, at times flowing into musical territories that recall early Mississippi blues. Not just the Beatles, however, but also original pieces and forays into contemporary music with tributes to Carla Bley, Mercedes Sosa, and Count Basie, among others.
