De Re Metallica

Copper and Coal
The STMM turns into a time machine and we travel back to the adventurous world of mining in the Middle Ages. Especially in the 15th century, copper smelting was one of the highest craftsmanship, as copper was one of the most sought-after metals.

From 23 to 25 August, re-enactment groups from South Tyrol, Germany and Trentino will set up their tents in the Nikolaus gallery of the former Prettau copper mine and demonstrate their craft to spectators in a historically accurate manner. From ore cutting to charcoal burning to copper smelting, from cooking to clothing to numismatics, from woodcutters to miners to the court of Maximilian I, we experience the exciting era first hand and gain new insights through experimental archeology.

The sparks fly, the coal glows and copper flows.
