The IIHF Continental Cup is the second-highest international club competition in ice hockey in Europe. All national champions who are not eligible to play in the Champions League compete for this prestigious title in a knockout system. As the reigning Italian champions, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps are also taking part in the upcoming 2024/2025 season and will enter the international cup competition in the second round. The Blue & Reds will also have the right to play at home, as the three-day, top-class tournament will be held at the Ritten Arena from 18 to 20 October 2024.

This means that Collalbo will once again host a top-class international ice hockey competition, with three other teams expected to take part alongside the host Rittner Buam SkyAlps. The team of new coach Jamie Russell already knows two of its opponents. One is the Slovenian champions and Alps Hockey League rivals HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice. Ukrainian champions Sokil Kyiv from Kiev, who are chasing the puck in the Ukrainian Hockey League, are also involved.

The fourth participant, on the other hand, must be determined in the first round of the IIHF Continental Cup from 20 to 22 September. The winner of the four-team group consisting of Serbian champions Crvena Zvezda Belgrade (Red Star Belgrade), Croatian champions and Alps Hockey League newcomers KHL Sisak, Belgian champions Liege Bulldogs and Bulgarian champions SC Irbis Skate will qualify.

Fans can look forward to two games per day!
The first training sessions for all four teams will start on Thursday 17 October in the Ritten Arena. The tournament will begin on Friday afternoon, with two games per day until Sunday. The first encounter will start at 4.00 pm, with the second match kicking off at 8.00 pm. In addition, the teams are entitled to an ice training session in the Ritten Arena on all match days in the morning. The IIHF Continental Cup will be played in a round-robin format, which means that each team will face each opponent once on the ice. The team that collects the most points will advance to the next round. After the tournament in Collalbo, the third round of the IIHF Continental Cup will take place in November, while the final tournament will be held in January 2025.

The ticket prices have already been set by the organizing committee of the IIHF Continental Cup on the Renon. The day pass costs 14 euros, for which you can watch both games. Owners of a Rittner Buam SkyAlps season ticket will be particularly pleased that the Continental Cup games are included. Many fans are expected to attend this ice hockey treat, not only from South Tyrol but also from the countries of the other participating teams and the rest of Italy.
