Experience the classic Kitzbühel Horn Mountain Run in its 46th year: This lung-burning challenge has built up quite a tradition & reputation as one of the toughest mountain running events in Austria.
This is the 46th year of this popular event and hundreds of competitors are drawn from all around the globe. The 12.9K course has a cumulative vertical gain of 1,234 meters of climbing that almost touch 25+% grade and finishes at the top of Kitzbühel Horn Peak at an awe-inspiring 1,996 meters on September 01, 2024.
An earlier rendering of the dash up the mountain on bicycles more than three decades ago — in 1978 to be precise — predates the modern-day version of the race. At that time, a running event was considered extremely difficult if not impossible. Franz Puckl and his friends raced to the top of Kitzbühel Horn Mountain on a bet that they could run among the cyclists, and they succeeded. The first annual Mountain Run was held in the year 1979. Since 2009, the run has been part of the prestigious “Salomon Running Tour” race series. The competition starts at 9:30am in the town center of Kitzbühel. The sheer beauty of the course itself is a notable characteristic and the lung-burning challenge in switchbacks has built up quite a tradition and reputation as one of the toughest running events worldwide.
