Passion Play in Erl

600 people from Erl and the surrounding area dedicate themselves to ensuring the Passion Play attracts tens of thousands of spectators every six years. This "village community project" has a very long tradition. Records indicate an Easter play was performed in Erl as early as 1613. The villagers' genuine passion for their Passion Play makes this event a cultural highlight. Biblical texts are interpreted in a contemporary way by amateur actors and performed in the modern Passionsspielhaus (Passion Play House) in the idyllic village.
