The top of Hartkaiser Mountain is one of the best vantage points to view the summer solstice fires that light up the night sky above Wilder Kaiser Range.
As night falls on June 21, 2025, it is time to board Hartkaiserbahn Gondola in Ellmau and enjoy a scenic ride up to the top of Hartkaiser Mountain at an elevation of 1,553 meters. The main bonfire is lit at dusk to accompany the many smaller fires burning atop the jagged peaks and summits of Wilder Kaiser Mountains and the Kitzbühel Alps. In centuries past, this tradition was used to drive away demons and evil spirits.
