In the early 1990s, the life-size nativity scene of Tesero was first set up in a characteristic "corte" (covered passageway) in the village. These passageways, along with winding alleys and small irregular squares, are typical features of the historic centre.
This sparked the idea of involving the families of Tesero in setting up their traditional nativity scenes in the "corte", allowing everyone to admire them. Since then, from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception to Epiphany, a stroll through the "corte" becomes a visit to an open-air exhibition. Almost one hundred nativity scenes enhance the most characteristic spots, cellar windows, and charming little squares.
The route is freely accessible all day, but an evening visit is recommended. Darkness and the subtle lighting create a particularly intimate atmosphere.
In addition to the large nativity scene and the route through the historic centre discovering the numerous nativity scenes scattered throughout the "corte", exhibitions of considerable interest on the theme of the Nativity have been added. These feature original works and traditional artefacts from various origins and are now ideally housed in the spacious cellars and rustic setting of the historic Casa Jellici next to the Town Hall.
