With her first prose text and her first direction, Caterina Guzzanti tackles a universal theme on which the debate today is more open and alive than ever. Secondo lei is a play about fragility: a long, intimate, delicate stream of thought, from the female point of view, on the hidden dynamics that govern couple relationships. A biased, but open and never judgmental perspective, which peremptorily focuses on a profound reflection on the rightness of the couple at all costs.
According to her, it is a story about the crisis of both the male and the female, in which pain and irony coexist in the paradox of the couple, in which everyone recognises many stories. Love idealised as a safe and healthy place becomes a daily and systematic denial of the needs and desires of others: a silent battlefield in which misunderstandings and needs sink in, while the only embarrassing desire would be to be understood, accepted and forgiven.
Where does the feeling come from that to become an adult one has to take refuge in the other person instead of investing in one's own independence? According to her, it is an item waiting for ‘according to him’. In the meantime she gets by with what little she knows, according to her.
